DECEMBER 23 | The Leopards Go Hunting

My first combat operation with the tanks. Once again we were teamed up with the Brits. The details of this operation are not relevant to the main point I want to make, so I will describe it only briefly. Our tanks took up a position north of here to give fire support to the British, who swept through the area north of the tanks in an east-west direction, clearing suspected compounds. Canadian infantry was positioned even farther north and off to one side to cut off the most likely escape routes.

What is important about this Op is not the way it was conducted but rather the result, which I think is even more noteworthy than the outcomes of the two operations I described earlier. And that result was . . . nothing. We spent the entire day clearing a large swath of Tali-ban territory, and not a single shot was fired. We found some weapons caches, which is always nice, but it might as well have been a peacetime exercise against an imaginary enemy force.
